Hi! I'm Stewart Young and welcome to
PipeTime® Highland Bagpipe Tuition. For over 17 years, I've been teaching students of all ages the art of learning to play the Great Highland Bagpipe through 1-on-1 and 2-on-1 private lessons.
Whether you're a new beginner looking to learn for fun or an experienced player looking to develop your skills for music exams or competition piping, I can help you.
I have over 29 years experience, performed in top-level pipe bands, taught as a Pipe Major for many years and have helped more than 300 students meet their piping goals.

Lessons
Lessons are normally weekly and 60mins in duration, which are carried out within my teaching studio in Livingston.
Students will generally reserve an agreeable timeslot which can be maintained at the same time and day of each week.
I accommodate a wide range of timeslots from Monday to Friday covering mornings, afternoons and evenings.

Online Lessons
If you're not able to visit my teaching studio in-person, why not take your lessons online? I teach a number of students from all around the globe using the Skype video-calling platform - it's free and easy to use.

Workbooks
All students are taught using my SmartPlay™
structured learning series, which has been designed to work in conjunction with weekly lessons.
This dynamic program covers every aspect of piping from the new beginner to the accomplished player and is broken down into 12 progressive levels.
The complete series provides all of the knowledge and skills you will need to perform at any level; either as a hobby, a soloist or in a pipe band.
Through following this program, many of my students have gone on to perform in concert, competitive and military bands of all grades, together with SQA music exams; typically achieving A-level passes.
Equipment
In addition to bagpipe lessons, I can also advise and supply all necessary equipment and maintenance products from a variety of recognised quality manufacturers.
To ensure only the right equipment is purchased and at a reasonable cost, it is strongly recommended that students do not purchase equipment without tutor advice.
For new beginners, the only equipment required is a Practice Chanter (the learning instrument of the bagpipes) which can be supplied as part of my new-learner pack.
Bagpipe maintenance, repair and tune-up are also available. Prices are dependant on requirements.
